Nirnayam, an NGO in the neighbourhood, runs an after-school programme for underprivileged school girls to improve their overall quality of life.
Nirnayam aims to bring clarity by motivating and helping the underprivileged girls with their academics through skills-based education. A program called EFG – English For Girls too was recently started to train the students to speak and write English.
Nirnayam’s founder Devi Anbanandan says, “We are now concentrating on class 6 and 7 students and will guide them till they reach class 12. We train them in arts, crafts, dramatics etc., and hold talks on civic sense and social ethics so as to bring about awareness on these areas. We run various programs to equip the girls to face the challenges and demands of everyday life.”
Nirnayam is currently looking for more volunteers to help them carry out their work. If you can spare one hour after school hours – twice a week (preferably) and willing to impart any skills to help the girls with their academics (like teaching English or assisting Nirnayam in their activities), you can reach out to them.
Nirnayam is also accepting any storybooks as a donation for their library.
