3 Pondy youth held for attacking, robbing petrol pump worker in Chidambaram

Chennai: The police arrested three persons who brutally attacked a petrol pump worker at Chidambaram last night in an attempt to rob him.

According to the police, the trio came to a pump located at Puthu Chatram on Cuddalore Main Road, to refill petrol in their bike. Things took an ugly turn when petrol station worker Shivasankaran, who filled their tank, asked them to pay. But the men claimed they did not have money.

He held on to one of them to stop them from riding away from the place,  when one of them got down from the two-wheeler and attacked him with a sickle.

Seeing this, the other staff in the petrol pump fled. Another assailant grabbed Shivasankaran’s money bag which he refused to let go.

The men attacked him again and he suffered injuries on his head. The trio then fled with the bag.

When the police were informed about this, Superintendent of Police, Saravanan, formed a special team and began probing the case using CCTV visuals from the spot. The trio was arrested at Samiyarpet, Beach Road.

They were identified as Suresh (27), Manikandan (25) and Deva (23) from Puducherry.

It is said they were involved in the assault and robbery of van driver Shankar, from Villivakkam, at Outer Radial Road, Chidambaram, recently.

Shivasankaran is undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
