Chennai: The Madras High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the shocking case where a pregnant woman was given HIV+ infected blood during transfusion.
The court has ordered notice to the Tamilnadu government to submit a detailed report by 3 January 2019, on the action taken in the case.
A woman, eight months into her pregnancy, was given blood transfusion in the Sattur hospital as she was anaemic. But it later transpired that the donor was HIV +.
This led to a cry across the State and the government jumped to do some damage control.
In a related development, the dean of Rajaji Government Hospital in Madurai, Dr Shanmugasundaram, has said the woman is being tested again. The best possible treatment is being offered to her by a team of doctors in the hospital, he assured.
