Corpn issues applications to differently-abled to avail two-wheeler subsidy


Chennai: If you are an employed differently-abled woman aged between 18 and 40 holding a valid driving licence, it’s time you rush to your nearest Corporation zonal office as authorities have started issuing applications to avail subsidy for Amma Two Wheeler Scheme following an official announcement by Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan.

Amma Two Wheeler Scheme was kickstarted by the State government 24 February last year to help improve the mobility of poor working women. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scheme offers a subsidy of 50 per cent of the cost of the two-wheeler or Rs 25,000 whichever is less. The beneficiary will be permitted to buy the any branded vehicle of her choice from her own funds or by availing loans from banks / non-banking finance companies governed by the rules of the Reserve Bank of India.

The vehicle should be subject to the maximum engine capacity of 125 cc, eligible to be registered under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. It should have been manufactured on or after 1 January 2018 and comply with the latest emission norms. The beneficiary should be a native of and resident of Tamilnadu and the annual income should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh.

For the financial year 2017-18, a total of 9,519 subsidies were allocated of which 4 per cent was reserved for differently-abled women. While 9,138 subsidies have already been given, the remaining 4 per cent that’s 381 subsidies alone are pending now and will be handed over soon.

The differently-abled women who are applying now can avail themselves of retro-fitted three wheeler scooters under the scheme.
