The Madras High Court today refused an urgent hearing into a plea which urged postponement of Tiruvarur by-election.
An advocate had moved the Madras High Court yesterday to direct the Election Commission to postpone the by-election to Tiruvarur that was announced Monday.
The by-election is scheduled to take place 28 January following the demise of DMK president and former chief minister M Karunanidhi.
One more petition has also been filed in this regard. Meanwhile, filing of nominations for the 28 January by-poll started today, and reports say an independent candidate submitted his papers.
