Chennai: Tiruvarur Collector and District Election Officer (DEO) L Nirmal Raj has called for an all-party meet in view of the 28 January by-election.

Earlier, State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Satyabrata Sahoo has directed the DEO to submit a report on the upcoming by-election at the constitution, by this evening.

Sahoo has received complaints regarding the by-poll as the relief measures for Cyclone Gaja are ongoing at the constituency. Reports stated that upon receiving the report from the Electoral officer, the Election Commission will decide on the by-poll.

Meanwhile, DMK president M K Stalin today stressed that the views of all parties must be taken into account. Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), deputy general secretary, TTV Dinakaran, on the other hand stated that DMK is afraid to face the polls. “DMK is afraid to contest in the elections much like ruling party AIADMK,” he said.

Seconding his views was AIADMK spokesperson Vaigaiselvan, who said the DMK is fearful of the elections. “They are afraid and nervous upon the announcement of by-polls,” he said.
