Chennai: Rotary Club of Madras T Nagar presented Life Time Achievement award to cricket great Sunil Gavaskar and Vocational Excellence award to golf player Rahul Gangjee at an event here Tuesday.
The Rotary Club of Madras T Nagar organises the event annually in which people from all walks of life are honoured by the club.
Speaking during the event, Sunil Gavaskar said, “I am very happy to accept the honour. I wish all success to the Rotary Club for all that it had been doing to help the society. As a batsmen if I am batting with the tail-enders it’s my duty to shield them from the bowlers. So, if a team has to succeed you have to make that little contribution. That is exactly what we see in the society. If we have that little bit extra then we have to make that contribution for the benefit of the whole society.”
Rahil Gangjee thanked the club for giving him the award and said “Since I am practicing golf in Japan, there everyday we say thank you for your hardwork to fellow golfers. I want to say the same thing here.”
Tennis player Vijay Amirtaraj, Babu Peram, Rotary District Governor and Media Sales managing director Narendra Sririmath, who is also the brand ambassador of Rotary Club’s educating girl child programme were present.
The RCMT also conducted a golf tournament few days back and presented awards to the winners of the tourney during the event.
