Two elephants in Krishnagiri forest fight, one dies

Chennai: A 25-year-old male elephant died today after it fought with another bull in Krishnagiri forest range.

More than 200 elephants are roaming the forest areas in and around Hosur out of which 15 elephants were camped in the Krishnagiri forest range for the past one week.

These pachyderms used to stay in the forest during day and come out to raid the villages and farms in the night.

Two bulls from the group fought with each other, in which one pachyderm was grievously injured and died on the spot. Forest officials who came to know about this arrived at the spot and carried out the post-mortem. It is also said that the dead elephant had only one tusk which was also removed by the officials and has been taken to the forest office.

Farmer attacked
Meanwhile, Rayappan, a farmer who was guarding his Raagi field near Thaalavaady in Sathyamangalam was attacked by an elephant. Sources said Rayappan is grievously injured and is admitted in the hospital.
