Chennai: The Tamilnadu government has announced that 14,423 special buses would be operated from Chennai for Pongal to help people from other districts reach their destination.
The special buses will start running from this evening for four days, said a report.
Also, more than 10,000 buses will be operated from other districts to handle the festival rush.
With many people heading out from the city to their native places to celebrate the Tamilar Thirunal (Pongal), there is bound to be heavy traffic at the exit points. To streamline the traffic at toll booths, the government has made arrangements for buses to use a particular lane.
Buses to various parts of the State will be operated from five points: Koyambedu, K K Nagar, Poonamallee, Madhavaram and Tambaram Sanatorium. This is to ease congestion on Chennai roads and distribute the crowds to different parts of the city.
