No Mammootty no ‘Peranbu’, says Ram

National award winning filmmaker Ram’s Peranbu features Mammootty in an interesting role. He plays father to a differently-abled young girl. Sadhana is playing the role of Mammootty’s daughter. This is director Ram’s first venture with Mammootty.

Speaking about Mammootty, Ram, says, “When I thought who should be chosen as Amudan, only a single face came to my mind and it was Mammootty. I have seen many Malayalam movies.

Mammookka’s Amaram, Thaniyavarthanam and Mrigaya are all my favourite movies. I was also impressed by Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha. MT Vasudevan Nair’s films and writings have influenced me. I would have withdrawn this project if Mammootty refused to do it.”

Anjali, Livingston and transgender Anjali Ameer are also in the cast. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Ram had directed films like Kattradhu Thamizh, Thanga Meenkal and Taramani before. Thanga Meenkal won the National award for the Best Tamil movie in 2013.

Peranbu speaks about an emotional father and his differently-abled child. It was premiered last year at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam and received good reviews. After another screening at the Shanghai International Film Festival, Peranbu was featured in the International Film Festival of India in Goa.

The film is bankrolled by PL Thenappan under his banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films. It is a bilingual that will be released in Tamil and Malayalam simultaneously in February.
