Saradha scam: CBI files charge sheet against Chidambaram’s wife

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a charge sheet against Former Union finance minister P Chidambaram’s wife, Nalini Chidambaram, in a special court in Kolkata.

The CBI alleged that she had received Rs 1.4 crore from Saradha group of companies, which is embroiled in a chit fund scam and this is the sixth charge sheet in the Saradha scam. The case was handed over to the CBI by the Supreme Court in 2014.

CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said she entered into a criminal conspiracy with the proprietor of Saradha group, Sudipta Sen, with an intention of cheating and misappropriation of funds of Saradha group of companies.

Former Union minister Matang Sinh’s wife had introduced Sudipta Sen to Nalini to manage probes by various agencies like SEBI, ROC against him. And she had allegedly received Rs 1.4 crore during 2010-12 through his companies.

The CBI alleged that the group had lured people with attracting interest rates, which were not repaid, and raised Rs 2,500 crore. The company was closed in 2013 after failing to pay returns.
