5 Lankan Tamils arrive in TN with 17 kg gold, 2 held

Rameswaram: Five Sri Lankan Tamils landed in Rameswaram after smuggling 17 kg gold in a fibreglass boat, but they escaped the police.

According to the police, the men had arrived in a fibreglass boat. Two other men who were about to return back to Sri Lanka from Madurai in the same boat were caught by the Coast Guard personnel off Dhanushkodi coast.

During interrogation, the two men claimed that they belong to Madurai district. A GPS, power Bank equipment, nine mobile phones, each worth Rs 80,000, three gold chains, and a 100 Dollar note were seized by the cost guard.

The police also said investigations were on to find if the duo had dropped any person in Lanka or taken any refugee from here to the island nation and returned.
