Man held for raping minors in Chennai


Chennai: A middle-aged man was arrested and lodged in Puzhal prison for raping three minor girls in Old Washermenpet.

According to the police, the accused Gandhi (45), a mason, had raped three girls between the age of five and nine, among them two of whom are his own grand-nieces, the other was his neighbour. The incident took place on 12 January.

Gandhi lived in Fourth Street near Amman Koil Street, Old Washermenpet. When he was alone, he called the three girls to his house and lured them into removing their clothes.

Later, the girls complained about pain in their private parts and the incident came to light. Soon, Gandhi fled. Following a police complaint at Tondirpet police station, a special team was formed by Inspector Ravindran and, on 20 January, they traced him to Villupuram where his mother was helping him hide from police.

Gandhi already has cases against him at Washermenpet police station once for assaulting his wife and for attempt to murder. He is currently lodged at Puzhal prison under POCSO Act.
