Chennai: A programme enabling children to attend nursary classes based on Montessori education in English medium at government middle schools with anganwadi centres in the State was formally launched by Tamilnadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Monday. The event was held at a Government Girls Middle School in Chennai.
According to official reports the project would cover 52,933 children in 2,381 anganwadi centres in Tamilnadu.
The teachers would be trained under the Samakra Shiksha Abhiyaan scheme, which is an overarching programme of the Ministry of Human Resource Development for the school education sector (Pre-school to Class 12).
The scheme is aimed at encouraging parents to send their children to government-run schools. Under the scheme, the LKG, UKG class students would be given a course completion certificate and four pairs of uniforms, color pencils, crayons and footwear for free.
Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Ministers and senior government officials were also present during the function.
