Coimbatore: The case of the daring daylight highway robbery of Rs 98 lakh worth jewellery in Tamilnadu-Kerala border a few days ago came to close when all the 16 people involved in the act were arrested.
According to police sources, on Tuesday, the accused were produced before the seventh judicial magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody. They have been currently lodged in to the central jail.
The gang had intercepted the official car belonging to the Kalyan Jewellers, while it was being transported from Thrissur in Kerala to the city, and had driven it away along with the jewellery inside on 7 January.
A few days ago, the police were able to crack the case after a mother-son duo were nabbed in Tirupati. Rs 60 lakh worth of jewellery were recovered from them. Immediately after this, four special teams of police were formed to nab the culprits and managed to arrest the 16 people, including the mastermind.
