Chennai: The two-day Global Investors Meet kicked off here this morning with a welcome address by Industries Minister M C Sampath.
The Minister evoked the blessings of AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa in Tamil and then continued to speak in English.
He pointed out that her government now was working to make her dream of making Tamilnadu the numero uno State in India.
During her time, when the first GIM was held, projects worth Rs 2.42 lakh crore were cleared, he said. This year, more than 5,000 firms from India and abroad have registered for participation, he said.
He praised the leadership being provided by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his following in the footsteps of Jayalalithaa.
Welcoming Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, he said she had been very supportive of the State and praised her for bringing the Defence Industrial Corridor, that was inaugurated in Tiruchi recently, to Tamilnadu.
