Chennai: Money and jewels worth crores of rupees were stolen from the Punjab National Bank branch in Samayapuram last night.
The burglary came to light this morning at the branch situated at Tiruchi Samayapuram No. 1 Tollgate.
According to reports, the burglars, who had covered their faces, had made a big hole in the wall of the branch and gained access to the lockers. They used gas welding machine to break open the lockers and looted money and jewels from five of them.
They had abandoned on the bank premises the gas cylinder, welding machine and other implements they had used to open the lockers.
Further investigations are on.
