Bengaluru: Welcoming former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda to contest in the coming Lok Sabha polls from Bangalore North parliamentary constituency, Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda Sunday expressed confidence that he would succeed.
He stated that till now he had been contesting against small people and wishes to contest against Deve Gowda once and if given an opportunity he would succeed.
According to reports, pressure is mounting on Deve Gowda to contest from Bengaluru North or Mandya constituencies even though he had earlier said he would not be contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Currently, BJP has its hold over the three Lok Sabha constituencies in Bangalore: North, South and Central.
However, Deve Gowda responding to the whether he would contest from Bangalore North parliamentary constituency, said, “Why discuss about it now itself.”
Reports say that during a recent party meeting, some leaders from Bengaluru proposed that in order to help the ruling coalition gain hold in the city the JD(S) supremo should contest from Bangalore North.
It is to be noted that Vokkaligas, the community to which Gowda belongs, have a considerable presence in the constituency along with minorities.
Talking about the comments he made of his grandson Prajwal Revanna, PWD Minister HD Revanna, contesting from Hassan, Gowda said it was his personal wish and the party was yet to decide on it. He had also recently given a clear indication about his grandson Prajwal Revanna contesting the LS polls from Hassan.
Reports also claim that if Deve Gowda does not to contest from there, a section within the party wants Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy as candidature from Mandya.
The ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition coordination committee chairman Siddaramaiah said that the party will take a decision on seat sharing in three or four days. The party has already expressed its desire to contest in 12 seats, on which the Congress party has some reservations. The Congress has, however, said seat sharing would be on the basis of merit.
