Chennai: A railway heritage photo gallery was opened at Southern Railway headquarters building by Southern Railway Women’s Welfare Headquarters Organisation president Mansi Kulshrestha Tuesday.
Addressing mediapersons, Southern Railway General Manager R K Kulshrestha said, “The heritage photo gallery is opened for the benefit of rail heritage enthusiasts, railway personnel, and for the public to learn about the various facets of railway development over the years.”
The general manager also spoke about the revival of steam engines by making the stationary steam engines outside the headquarters building more attractive to heritage enthusiasts.
According to a press release, the photo gallery has heritage photographs archived from various sources as well as other developments of Southern Railway. It includes archived photographs of the engineering marvels of Southern Railway, like UNESCO listed Nilgiris Mountain Railway, Great Pamban Bridge and Sengottai-Punalur section. It also includes photographs of famous leaders’ visit to South Indian Railway.
The heritage gallery will be constantly updated. It will be open from 11 am to 5 pm, between Monday and Friday.
