Chennai: “Several parties are holding talks for an alliance with Makkal Needhi Maiam. I can’t reveal details about it now,” said president of the party, Kamal Haasan.

Addressing mediapersons after launching the Puducherry unit of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) in Chennai Wednesday, Kamal Haasan, said, “The executive committee of our party has been entrusted with all authority to decide on forging alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. There is still time left for general elections. We will arrive at a decision.”

On the mega alliance between the Congress and DMK, Kamal Haasan said, “It is basically about friends coming together. The question is whether we get good partners or not.”

Speaking about MNM, he said, “We have already crossed 10 lakh membership. We have major goals to achieve. The party will come up with major announcements in a grand event planned to celebrate its first anniversary soon.

On the vexatious Ayodhya issue, Kamal says, “What is more important is peace among people rather than construction of a temple in the disputed site. People should unite as Indians and ensure harmony.”

Earlier, Kamal Haasan launched the Puducherry unit of the party at Alwarpet. The event saw cadres from the Union Territory attend it in large numbers.

Addressing the cadres, Kamal said they should contribute their best for the welfare of the general public. He also announced a set of office-bearers for the Puducherry unit.
