Chennai: With dates for Lok Sabha elections expected to be announced soon, the final revised voters list of Tamilnadu was released by Chief Electoral Officer Sathyapradha Sahu today.
According to the list, there are 5,91,23,197 voters in the State. A total of 4.50 lakh new voters have been enrolled, and 5,62,937 have been removed due to death and change of place. There are 2,92,56,960 men, 2,98,60,765 women and 5,472 persons from the third gender.
While Sholinganallur has more number of voters in Tamilnadu with 6,18,695 electors, Harbour has the minimum number of voters.
Earlier in the day, Chennai Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan announced the final list of voters in Chennai. He said there are are 37,91,126 voters comprising of 18,83,898 men, 19,34,078 women and 932 third gender.
The final voters list was released by the District Collectors in all 32 districts of the State. The Election Commission gave two months time from October for making new enrollments in the list.
Satyapradha Sahu said around 13,96,326 applications were received out of which corrections were made in 2,19,392 forms.
Similarly, the final revised list of voters in Pudhucherry was released by the Chief Electoral Officer V Candavelou.
According to the list there are 9,59,566 voters out of which 4,53,153 are men, 5,06,330 are women and 93 are from the third gender.
Meanwhile, local body elections are waiting to be conducted in Tamilnadu for more than two years due to legal issues. On Wednesday, State Election Commissioner Malik Ferozh Khan said the date for the civic polls in the State will be announced by the end of May.
