Live workshop at Stanley Hospital to treat diabetes patients

Chennai: In all, world is home to 41.5 crore diabetics and for every 20 minutes, toes or feet of a patient is removed and as a result of which 40 per cent of the population are disabled, according to a press release issued by Health Department.

To provide better care, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, C Vijayabaskar, inaugurated a live operative workshop and continuous medical education on diabetic foot at Stanley Medical College and Hospital today.

In addition, the event also saw distribution of micro cellular rubber (MCR) footwear to 15 patients, releasing of posters emphasising the need to take care of feet and prosthesis was given.

A press release issued by the department, stated, “In coming days, plans are on to demonstrate government doctors employed all over the State about treating wounds on legs for patients with diabetes within stipulated time. Experts from plastic surgery, diabetology and cardiology will oversee the demo. Establishment of master health check-up and preventive podiatry centres are also on the cards.”

On Thursday, the Health Minister inaugurated C T scan and three dialysis machines at Tambaram Government Hospital.
