Nostalgia ran high at RKM Sarada Vidyalaya Girls Higher Secondary School located in Usman Road recently, when 450 former students turned up to celebrate Alumni Day here.
A press release said, students from batches 1949 till 2018, were present at the event, while Dr Saraswathy Sankaran, who has a PhD in Sociology and is an alumnus of the 1953 batch, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Dr Saraswathy who organises regular awareness programmes on HIV, women empowerment and child abuse, spoke about the activities of ‘Desh’, an NGO, involving in organising programmes.
V Bhagyalakshmi, president of the alumni association and a student of 1949 batch, expressed her happiness of being a part of the event here. A team belonging to the 1969 batch, marked the day as ‘Golden Jubilee Alumni Year’ and launched a scheme ‘GEM’ (give every month), wherein, every student will contribute Rs 100 per month to ensure continuous flow of funds to the school.
Speaking to this paper, RM Namagiri, an alumnus said, “Every year during January, our meet will be organised in the institution’s premises. We invite more and more former students to join this group.”
School secretary Harini Varma addressed the audience and principal, N Shanthi welcomed the gathering. Rolling shield for maximum number of participation went to the 1993 batch students, the release added.
