Karthi-starrer ‘Dev’ is a love story that isn’t about romance

Dev is a love story. But it isn’t about romance. It is about loving life and doing what your heart says,” said actor Karthi on his upcoming film with actress Rakul Preet Singh, set to hit the screens on Valentine’s Day 14 February.

Karthi plays a bike enthusiast and an adventure-lover in Dev. The chemistry between Karthi and Rakul in the trailer has set the screen on fire and left the audience in anticipation of watching them on-screen.

Shedding light on Dev at a promotional event, Karthi said, “It is a film that speaks about loving everything around you. Live the moment, love and do what your heart says is what Dev is all about. This is a love story, but it isn’t about romance. Rakul Preet Singh has been a great performer and she has really breathed more life into this character.”

Actress Rakul Preet Singh said, “When working with Karthi in Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, I used to tell him that I wanted to work in a full-fledged romantic film. That is when he asked me to listen to Dev’s script and I was obsessed with it. Director Rajath Ravishankar has crafted a story that is so colourful with amusing and emotional elements spangled together.”

Dev has also brought Karthi together with composer Harris Jayaraj, who is usually the go-to music director for Karthi’s brother Suriya’s films.

On the collaboration, Karthi said, “Every time Hariss Jayaraj composes music for Suriya Anna, I always wonder – and wish -when I will get that opportunity. Now, I am happy that it’s happening through Dev.”

Dev is produced by S Lakshman of Prince Pictures and is helmed by debut director Rajath Ravishankar. Speaking about the duo, Karthi said, “Rajath Ravishankar is really a talented filmmaker and being a first-timer, he has done unbelievable work. I always keep telling him that he should continue to make more movies. Producer Lakshman’s grandfather was the producer of Madurai Veeran and film production is in his genes. I am very emotionally excited as we are doing a film together.”
