Tamilnadu budget: 172.06 crore allocated for agriculture mechanisation

Chennai: Given the fact that agriculturists were facing labour shortage, with labourers either shifting to the city or taking up MNREGA work, the Tamilnadu budget has set aside a sum of Rs 172.06 crore for agriculture mechanisation, Rs 150 crore for horticulture, and an infrastructure budget of Rs 79.73 crore for Tamil Nadu Agriculture University.

Further, Rs 258.45 crore has been set aside for dairy development and Rs 927.85 crore for Fisheries Department.

The government also set aside Rs 50 crore for the new Chief Minister’s Scheme for Augmentation of Fruits and Vegetables for safe storage, transportation and marketing of fruits and vegetables.

Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who also wields the Finance portfolio in the Tamilnadu Cabinet, is presenting the 2019-20 budget in Assembly today.
