Health official in TN suspended for seeking bribe

Tirunelveli: Elangovan, joint director of Health, came under fire after he allegedly demanded bribe for an official favour. He was placed under suspension.

According to sources, the accused was due for retirement from service in just two weeks and he had sought money from a private hospital owner for certification of a scanning equipment purchased from Chennai, the sources said.

He was also allegedly charged with seeking money from a contractor who was building an annexe of the district headquarters hospital in Tenkasi. Based on a complaint from the hospital owner and the contractor, Elangovan has been suspended pending enquiry.
