Chennai: Despite the glitches yesterday in the Airport-Washermanpet line of Metro, its popularity has not diminished, what with the Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) announcing free rides.
CMRL announced that commuters can ride free for the second consecutive day today.
Yesterday, when the line was thrown open to the public after its inauguration Sunday by Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, there was a huge rush to use the service as it was free. According to reports, about 2 lakh passengers used the Metro yesterday.
Chances are that the same number or more would travel by Metro since CMRL has promised free rides today also.
The last time it offered free rides, Metro stations were jam-packed with commuters.
