Vellore: Over 38,000 students from 700 universities and colleges from 30 countries in Asia, Europe and Africa will be participating in ‘Riviera’, the annual international sports and cultural carnival at VIT, from 14 to 17 February.
Film celebrities including playback singers Devi Sri Prasad, Shaan, actor cum playback singer Andrea Jeremiah, music director Ghibran and radio jockey cum actor RJ Balaji are among those who will be performing at the event.
Participating at the roadshow event for the carnival at the institution premises in Vellore on Monday, VIT Chancellor G Viswanathan said, “Cricketer Murali Vijay will inaugurate the carnival at 10 am on 14 February. Riviera, which was started with a budget of Rs 2 lakh in 2001 will see a budget of Rs 2.25 crore this year. Prizes worth Rs 20 lakh would be given to the winners of various events,” he added.
‘Shatter the monotony’ will be the theme of Riviera 2019, according to student organiser (publicity) M Rahul Vignesh.
Student organiser Mirnalini, said, “There will be 129 events during Riviera and actor-cum-singer Shruti Haasan will deliver the valedictory address on 17 February.”
VIT executive director Sandhya Pentareddy, Vice-Chancellor Anand A Samuel, Pro Vice-Chancellor S Narayanan were among those present at the roadshow event.
