Chennai: The All India Hajj Association thanked Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami for urging the Centre to allot an additional 1,500 Hajj seats to the State’s quota.
All India Hajj Association president Abu Bakkar on behalf of body conveyed his ‘heartfelt thanks’ to Chief Minister Palaniswami for writing the letter, a press release said.
He said, “The Hajj is an important pilgrimage to the people who follow Islam. We are happy that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allot more seats for people undertaking the pilgrimage from Tamilnadu. This year, 3,534 seats have been allocated for Tamilnadu.”
However, though only 3,534 seats are available for the Haj pilgrimage this year, the Tamilnadu State Hajj Committee has already received 6,379 applications. To overcome this huge gap, the Chief Minister on Tuesday requested Prime Minister Modi to instruct the Ministry of Minority Affairs to allocate 1,500 additional seats over and above the quota allotted to Tamilnadu.
