Chennai: A rowdy accused in a murder case in 2016 escaped from police custody at Perungalathur GST Road on Wednesday.
According to sources, the accused Ganesh alias ‘Thondhi’ Ganesh (26), a native of Rajapalayam worked as a lorry driver in the Korukkupet a few years ago.
In 2016, he was arrested for the murder of a woman identified as Lakshmi. Subsequently, he was lodged in Madurai Central Prison.
On Wednesday, he was brought to the Mahila court on Madras High Court campus. By evening, after the proceedings got over, the policemen decided to take him back to Madurai prison by bus.
When the bus reached Perungalathur GST Road, Ganesh escaped. Peerkankaranai police have launched a search for him.
