TNEB engineer caught in DVAC trap in Chennai

Chennai: Officials of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested an Assistant Executive Engineer of Tamilnadu Electricity board and one more person this morning on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh for giving commercial electricity connection.

Based on the complaint from a sub-contractor of a builder, Thillairaj, the DVAC laid a trap and caught them red handed. They have been identified as Assistant Engineer Jose Alwyn and other person Murugaselvam. The officials also conducted a search at the engineer’s Virugambakkam residence.

The complainant alleged that Murugaselvam demanded Rs 2.50 lakh excluding the government fee of total Rs 42,000 to provide six new three-phase electrical connections for a newly constructed commercial building in Esplanade.

The official demanded the money as an advance before submitting the applications. The duo were produced before a special Judge.
