Madurai: Coming down heavily on the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for the delay in making public the findings Adhichanallur excavations, the Madras High Court yesterday directed the Centre to file a report on Monday.
The ASI had taken up the excavations more than 10 years ago – between 2003 and 2005. Petitions were filed seeking fresh excavation in the area.
Hearing a batch of petitions regarding this issue, Justices N Kirubakaran and S S Sundar of the Madurai Bench wondered as to why the report was not filed yet. They asked whether the central government did not want the ancient Tamil culture and civilisation to be exposed to the country.
The judges then ordered the Centre to file a report on Monday and adjourned the hearing to that day.
