Coimbatore: The second edition of jallikattu was held in Coimbatore on Sunday. 40 bull-tamers were injured in the event.
Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani inaugurated the event. Nearly 2,500 police personnel were deployed for security and the event was organised by the district administration and Coimbatore Jallikattu Federation which arranged facilities. An ambulance and a 15-member team of doctors to provide first aid for the injured were present.
740 bulls and 1,700 tamers took part in the event. More than 40,000 spectators gathered at the venue to witness it. A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the 40 CRPF personnel who lost their lives in a terror attack in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir
According to media reports, 20 of the injured men were admitted to various hospitals. Some of the bull too sustained minor injuries.
The winner of the event was Karthik of Madurai. He tamed 13 bulls at the event and so was adjudged as the best tamer. A car, a motorcycle and two housing plots were gifted to him.
