Increase time given for voting, avoid polling on Fridays: BJP to CEO

Hyderabad: BJP’s Telangana State unit yesterday submitted a memorandum Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar, seeking to avoid polling on a Friday and to increase the time given for voting.

According to a press release, BJP State president K Laxman said the time allotted for polling should be increased as the generation of VVPATs consumes some time and some EVMs may also develop technical problems which need time to be rectified.

Alleging that the slips issued by BLOs (booth-level officers) were misused at various places or that the details on the slips issued by the BLOs were not clearly visible,

The BJP also demanded a proof of identity like a voter ID card or a driving licence to be shown by the voters while casting their votes. Such an initiative was necessary because the slips issued by booth-level officers (BLOs) were misused at various places or that sometimes the details on the slips were not clearly visible. As some voters would leave the city for a weekend holiday, the party asked the CEO to avoid conducting polling on a Friday.

Speaking to reporters, BJP national secretary RP Singh said if a khichdi government came to power it would not be able to take firm decisions. He also asked the people of Telangana to vote for BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.
