Students held for vandalising bus at Ambattur in Chennai

Chennai: Four students have been taken into police custody for damaging a MTC bus at Ambattur on 13 February. Police said the incident took place due to an ‘internal fight’ among the students and a search is on for three more youth.

Police took the action based on a complaint by bus conductor Balavarnan (51) of Pallavan Salai.

On 13 February, bus number 27 H, shuttling between Avadi and Anna Square was driven by Murugan (42). When the vehicle was at Vanuvampet, Ambattur, few youngsters on bikes tried to stop the bus, but Murugan did not stop, police said.

The men hurled stones at the bus and broke its glass. Later, they entered the bus with a knife and created a ruckus.

Balavarnan was beaten up while the students settled scores with another group of youngsters. Passengers fled the spot amid the confusion.

Ambattur Estate police went through CCTV visuals from the spot and arrested the four. The students are studying B.Com at Pachaiyappa’s College.
