Chennai: Areas under the range of Anna Nagar, Thirumangalam and Villivakkam Police stations are now under 100 per cent CCTV surveillance with the help of 10,164 cameras.
At a function held at Anna Nagar Tower Park on Tuesday to announce the completion of the project, City Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan thanked residents, traders and private agencies who helped the Police department complete the project.
According to the Police, 3,734 cameras have been installed at Anna Nagar range, 3,925 cameras at Thirumangalam range and 2,505 at Villivakkam range.
Additional Commissioner of Police-North R Dhinakaran, West Chennai Joint Commissioner B Vijayakumari and Anna Nagar Deputy Commissioner Dr M Sudhakar participated in the event along with respective police personnel from Anna Nagar, Thirumangalam and Villivakam range and residents from the area.
CCTV cameras are helpful to prevent crimes and to nab criminals who have committed crimes. They are also very helpful to ascertain the truth in the event of a crime, accident or any mishaps. So, the Chennai Police had started a drive under Commissioner Viswanathan’s guidance last year to bring the entire city under CCTV surveillance.
