Bengaluru: Weeks after he was declared absconding, Karnataka Congress MLA J N Ganesh was yesterday arrested in Gujarat.
A case was filed against him based on a complaint by MLA Anand Singh, who had been hospitalised for an injury he suffered in the alleged brawl with Ganesh at the resort where the Karnataka Congress MLAs were being huddled amid BJP’s alleged poaching bid last month.
In his FIR, Anand said that Ganesh was upset with him for not helping him financially during the May assembly elections. Ganesh had blamed that Singh’s nephew Sandeep had threatened him that he would finish him off politically. After this, Ganesh reportedly hit him with a stick and a pot. Ganesh had also rammed Singh against the wall kicked him in the stomach and face. He had also asked for a pistol to kill him, Singh had said in his complaint.
Following information that Ganesh was staying in a hotel in Gujarat, a police team from Karnataka was sent there and they subsequently arrested the MLA when he was going to have lunch near Somnath Temple.
Issuing a statement, Karnataka Home minister M B Patil said the MLA was arrested at 2 pm and that he would be brought to the State by a flight in the night.
