Chennai youngsters receive ‘Kalai Ilamani’ award

Shreya Vasudevan (13), a Bharathanatyam student of guru J Suryanarayanamurthy, at Madras Kali Bari, Umapathy Street Extension, was presented the ‘Kalai Ilamani’ award, that is given by the State government to outstanding youngsters in the field of fine arts.

A press release said, Shreya who is learning the art from the age of five, has performed at various venues in places like Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, apart from Tamilnadu.

She has also performed ‘Nadaneerajanam’, a dance programme at Tirumala for three consecutive years.

Similarly, another youngster S Shruuti, granddaughter of veteran dramatist RS Manohar, and resident of Bagirathimmal Street, also received the said award for her excellence in the field of fine arts.

A press release said, Shruuti acted in various plays produced by Nataka Semmal RS Manohar Nxgs, a theatre troupe functioning in T Nagar, and took part in various competitions and won prizes.

The awards were given away by State Minister for Tamil Official Languages and Tamil Culture, K Pandiarajan in the presence of Member of Parliament (South Chennai), Dr Jayawardhan and Mylapore MLA, R Nataraj.
