Hyderabad: BJP MP Varun Gandhi yesterday took part in the Indian School of Business policy conclave ‘Road to 2019’ and according to him, the Parliament library is the loneliest place on earth.
Speaking at the event, he said members seldom visit the library
Stressing the importance and need for lawmakers to gain knowledge, Varun said he visited the Parliament library often and every time he felt like it was hugging him as no body visited the place and termed it as the loneliest loneliest place on earth.
While the country is brimming with younger population, the average age of the Parliamentarians is increasing, he stated. Every term since 1952, the average salary of MPs has been increasing. And ever since he became an MP he has been urging the members who’s salary was above Rs 20 crore to donate it to the poor like he does. But he didn’t receive any response in this regard, he said.
“In the last 20 years, 64 per cent of all legislation passed in Parliament have been done without one second of deliberation and 71 per cent of the Bills have been passed without sending them to any standing committee,” he further added.
