Chennai: In an effort to prevent rail passengers from using unauthorised food ordering apps, the Indian Railways’ catering service provider, IRCTC, issued a warning to passengers via Twitter Friday to use only its authorised app – the IRCTC e-catering app or its online website www.ecatering.irctc.co.in
According to sources, many rail passengers order food by using unauthorised apps like Travel Khana and Rail Yatra.
Senior IRCTC officials said they cannot be held responsible for the food’s quality ordered through such apps. IRCTC had also issued a similar warning last year.
Speaking to News Today, a senior IRCTC official said, “IRCTC controls only one app and a website to handle the food order placed by passengers. Any other apps that are available aren’t authorised by us. Such apps are run by private startups.”
HOW TO ORDER A MEAL
Passengers can book their meal through e-catering.irctc.co.in by entering their PNR. Orders can also be made by dialing 1323. To order on mobile, download the app, ‘IRCTC eCatering – Food on Track’. The app is available for Android and iOS phones. Passengers can even book food via SMS, by typing MEAL <PNR> and sending it to 139.
