India believes in women power: Guv

Governor Banwarilal Purohit along with award winners at the FICCI FLO Women Achiever Awards 2019 event held in Chennai on Monday.

Chennai: “A country’s progress can be judged by the status of women in that country and opportunities given to them. In India we believe in the concept of ‘Women Power’,” said Governor of State, Banwarilal Purohit.

The comments came after Purohit presented successful women with the FICCI FLO Women Achiever Awards 2019 that was held in the city on Monday.

Participating as chief guest at the awards event Purohit said, “Tamilnadu has had a glorious tradition of empowering women for positions in public life. This is one of the reasons why the State enjoys the pride of place in matters of development. The State is endowed with good infrastructure, and a work culture where people work hard and work with efficiency and sincerity.”

Purohit also said the State’s Human Development Index is the second highest among large States and much higher than the national average because of the consistent and high levels of social sector expenditure in the areas of health, education, nutrition, welfare of women and children and social security.

“History speaks about the great women leaders who adorned our illustrious array of thinkers, poetesses and warriors. Avvaiyar was one of the most famous and important female poets of Tamil Sangam. There have been outstanding women leaders in the 20th century in India. They shine as examples of glory to womanhood and women power. I can recall the services of Sarojini Naidu, Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy, Ambujammal, Indira Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Kalpana Chavala in this context,” said the governor about achievements made by women.

The FLO which was established in 1983, as the women’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry is an all India forum for women. FLO has 15 chapters and more than 5,000 women entrepreneurs as its members.
