Pondy CM urges Centre to secure release of IAF pilot in Pak custody

Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy yesterday urged the Centre to safely secure the release of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who is under the custody of Pakistan following an aerial confrontation between the two countries.

“I feel sad for our Wing Commander IAF Pilot Shri #AbhinandanVarthaman is in the custody of Pakistan. I urge the Govt to take all possible steps including Diplomatic channel for release of the Pilot,” the Chief Minister tweeted.

A video of the IAF pilot apparently released by the Pakistan media was circulated on social media and this prompted a cry for the soldier’s safe return home. Many condemned Pakistan for releasing the videos saying that the neighbouring country’s vulgar display was evident in this case as it showed an injured defence personnel in violation of international norms.

Many political leaders cutting across party lines voiced their concern for the captured pilot and urged the government to secure his release at the earliest.
