After the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao opted to not celebrate his birthday on 17 February as a show of respect to the martyrs who were killed in the Pulwama terror attack, Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali followed suite.

Ali yesterday announced that he has decided not to celebrate his birthday on 2 March in view of the attack, in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

The Chief Minister had urged party workers and others to contribute for the welfare of the martyrs’ kith and kin and like wise the Home Minister also asked his well-wishers to avoid visiting him and also contribute to the families of the CRPF personnel as a humanitarian gesture.

On 14 February a Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber rammed a vehicle loaded with over 100 kg of explosives into a bus carrying Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Pulwama district. 40 CRPF personnel were killed and many injured in the incident.

High tension between India and Pakistan ensued after the attack and India retaliated by bombing a terror base in Pakistan on Tuesday.
