No grand celebrations on Stalin’s 67th birthday

Chennai: Based on a request made by DMK president M K Stalin, there were no grand celebrations on his 67th birthday today.

This is Stalin’s first birthday after being elevated as party president following the demise of his father and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi last year.

Stalin has already asked the cadres to carry out welfare measures on his birthday and directed the party workers not to use loud speakers as it is board exam time.

He asked cadres not to meet him in person and sources said he has gone out with family to a farmhouse in Kancheepuram district.

Several leaders, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, wished Stalin today. Meanwhile, the filing of application forms to contest in the Lok Sabha and byelection in DMK seats began today at Anna Arivalayam and will happen till 7 March.
