Chennai: Country’s top automaker Maruti Suzuki has formally discontinued the Gypsy, after having produced the vehicle for 33 years.
In an official email sent by Maruti Suzuki, the dealerships have been asked not to take any fresh bookings as there will not be any production or dispatches of the model. The remaining stock is for sale however.
The car was sold only through a made-to-order basis in recent years and was taking on new age competitors from Mahindra and Force.
It must be noted that the Indian army and the police used the vehicle in abundance but recently, Tata Motors won the bid to supply personal vehicles for the armed forces in India and recently started dispatching specially made Tata Storme vehicles.
The car had a 1.3 litre engine that produced 80 bhp and over 100 torques. It was sold for a little over Rs 6.1 lakh.
