Thiruvanmiyur students to benefit from govt meal scheme

Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit recently inaugurated a breakfast scheme of the Greater Chennai Corporation, at government-run schools in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai.

According to sources, nearly 1,000 students studying at Chennai Primary School, Chennai Higher Secondary School in Thiruvanmiyur and Chennai Primary School students in Thiruvanmiyur Kuppam, will benefit from the said initiative.

“The civic body has teamed up with an NGO-Akshaya Patra, and under this, either upma or idli or pongal would be served everyday,” sources added.

Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar and MP Jayavardhan participated in the event, where the Governor personally served the children.

The breakfast scheme would be a huge boost for the little ones who mostly come to schools with empty stomachs in the mornings, it is learnt.
