Chennai: In an attempt to bring awareness to government school students about Metro Rail in city, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has been undertaking monthly educational trips from Central Metro to Airport, AG-DMS to Airport and AG-DMS to Washermenpet.
A CMRL spokesperson, said, ‘In February, a total of 2,528 students traveled in Metro during the academic year 2018-19. Since the commencement of the trips from June last year, a total of 28,838 students from government schools have utilised these trips. The features of the Metro and its stations were explained to the students.’ Meanwhile, 38,642 passengers have used the CMRL’s feeder services in February.
CMRL has been plying share autos and share taxis at select Metro stations on a trial basis since 11 August 2018. A total of seven Metro stations were identified for share auto feeder service where the vehicles are running at a flat tariff of Rs 5. Similarly, share taxi feeder services were planned for six Metro stations and they are now covering 3 km radius with flat tariff of Rs 10. A CMRL spokesperson said, ‘A total of 38,642 passengers have utilised share auto and share taxi facilities in February. Of this, 6,052 passengers utilised share taxis while a total of 32,590 passengers utilised share autos. A total of 2,16,566 passengers have availed the services between 11 August 2018 and 28 February 2019.’
