Bengaluru: Amid growing speculation about JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda’s choice of constituency for the coming Lok Sabha elections, demand for him to contest from Mysore-Kodagu constituency resurfaced.
Voicing his opinion, Mysuru district in-charge Minister and JD(S) leader G T Deve Gowda said the people of Mysuru and the JDS chief have an affectionate relationship as he had brought in developments in the irrigation sector of the region. While Deve Gowda himself has said his grandsons Prajwal and Nikhil will contest from Hassan and Mandya, respectively, the party members wanted him to contest from Mysuru.
According to media reports, Congress too was seeking to field its candidate from Mysore-Kodagu, which is currently being held by BJP’s Pratap Simha. “If there is alliance between Congress and JD(S), H D Deve Gowda should be candidate that’s the wish of the people,” added the minister.
After the party supremo decided to vacate his current constituency Hassan to his grandson Prajewal Revanna, reports suggested that the veteran leader would contest from Mandya.
The coordination committee that met on Monday to decide on seat sharing could not arrive at a consensus, and it is now expected to be finalised by Congress President Rahul Gandhi and H D Deve Gowda. The minister, when questioned about the doubts in alliance between Congress and JD(S), said, it would be clear only on the day when the seat sharing for the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies was announced.
