Modi in TN: AIADMK leaders seek successive term for him as PM

Kancheepuram: Speaking at the rally in Kilambakkam, Kanchipuram district, amid AIADMK leaders, coalition partners, including PMK, BJP and Puthiya Tamizhagam, Chief Minister K Palaniswami stated that only Modi was capable of ruling the country.

“If we are living safely here, it means the credit goes to his administrative skills,” he said. India’s security is very important and to handle the neighbouring countries who were creating so many problems, an efficient person like Modi was needed. Further, lauding the PM for the air strikes on Pakistan-based terrorist camp post Pulwama, he said the world was supporting India and the reason for this is Modi’s diplomacy by travelling to various countries in the past five years. Only Modi had the qualification to ensure the safety of the 130 crore Indians he added.

He further praised Modi for keeping the inflation under control and also for the recent PM-Kisan scheme. Pointing finger at DMK, he asked, “What did they do for Tamilnadu? Only their family benefited. We need a strong India. We need to safeguard the country. For this, the Prime Minister has to return for a second term.” He urged the people of Tamilnadu to give the ‘mega’ NDA coalition a ‘grand victory’ in the coming elections.

Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam too was not short of words to praise Modi. He stated that his alliance will secure a Himalayan victory in the coming Lok Sabha election and that it was a fight between ‘dharma’ and ‘adharma’ and their alliance was fighting to uphold dharma.

The AIADMK coordinator too strongly pitched for a second term for Modi as Prime Minister. Responding to critics questioning AIADMK’s tie-up with the BJP, he assured that the party has taken the same decision that the late Jayalalithaa would have taken if she were alive today. He also recalled the bond between them and said, “She (Jayalalithaa) was like an elder sister to him (Modi).”

Jayalalithaa had won the 2014 elections alone by securing 37 of the 39 seats in Tamilnadu and had taken on the BJP leader amidst a perceived ‘Modi wave’. He also noted that during the campaign Jayalalithaa had famously said “lady is better than Modi” in administration.

The deputy CM went on to praise Modi for allowing jallikattu in the State, bringing AIIMS and launching a number of rail and road projects in Tamilnadu. Hitting out at the DMK, he asked if it could name a Prime Ministerial candidate.
