Chennai: The Chief Justice of Madras High Court Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani has said all cases related to the 2019 general elections and the by-elections to the 18 constituencies should be filed only in the Madras High Court in Chennai and not in any other court.
This was brought to the notice of the Madras High Court by the Election Commission of India, referring to a 2011 resolution that all election cases would be heard by the Madras High Court.
If the cases were filed in the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court as well, it would lead to duplication, it was argued.
Hearing the admission today, Justice Tahilramani ruled that all cases related to the general elections and the by-elections to the 18 constituencies would be heard only by the Madras High Court.
She said a bench consisting of Justice S Manikumar and Subramaniam Prasad would hear the election-related cases.
